Dental inlays and Onlays are actually partial crowns. The affected tooth is used as a base, with the Inlay or Onlay fitted onto the tooth. Our dental clinic in Surrey uses them to strengthen a tooth, restore its original shape, and prevent further damage from occurring in the future. Of course, an Inlay or Onlay will also help you get back your beautiful smile!
Inlays are used when the tooths’ cusp is undamaged and the inlay can safely be placed directly on the tooth. Onlays, on the other hand, are used on teeth with more extensive damage.
The Inlay/Onlay procedure has a few steps and will require two visits to our dentist in Surrey. The decayed portion of your tooth will be removed during your first visit. While you’re here, an impression of the tooth will be taken and sent to the dental lab so it can make your inlay or Onlay. Because the process takes a week or two, your Surrey dentist will fit you with a temporary inlay or Onlay.
After your inlay or Onlay arrives at our office, you’ll come in for your second visit. During that session, your Inlay or Onlay will be positioned and fixed into place with adhesive cement. Once it’s in place your tooth will look natural and no one will know the Inlay or Onlay is even there!
