Are your teeth slightly discoloured, chipped, or slightly cracked? Do they seem too large or small for your mouth, or do you just not like the smile they give you?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you might be a perfect candidate for porcelain veneers. The smile experts at our Surrey dental clinic are using these ultra-thin layers of ceramic material to create brand-new smiles for their patients. Basically, a porcelain veneer is bonded onto the surface of a tooth to cover imperfections. Naturally, you’ll be given anesthesia so you’re not in any discomfort during the process. You’ll need to visit our dental clinic in Surrey twice, because the porcelain veneer procedure has several steps.
Here’s a little more detail on how it works:
The first step involves preparing the tooth for its porcelain veneer. The imperfect portions of the tooths’ surface will be removed. Your Dentist will then carefully shape the tooth in a way that compliments the nearby teeth and will result in a beautiful smile. As a general rule, only a very thin surface layer of the tooth (between 0.3 and 0.7 mm thick) must be removed. Once the tooth is shaped, we’ll take an impression and send it to the dental lab that will make your new porcelain veneer. Because your veneer won’t arrive at our dental clinic in Surrey for several days, we’ll make and position a temporary veneer to protect your tooth during the wait.
After we receive your permanent porcelain veneer, you’ll come in for your second visit. Your Surrey dentist will remove the temporary device and bond the permanent veneer to your tooth. All of a sudden you’ll see a great new smile when you look in the mirror!
Porcelain veneers are thin, but they’re much stronger than composite “bonding” veneers and they’re much less likely to crack or break.
